Ed Chaffin, PCC is a writer, speaker, former executive and now an entrepreneur dedicating his life to creating the next generation of “uncommon leaders.” He is launching The UnCommon Leadership Institute in 2013 designed to provide a global, value-added, content driven web experience for anyone wanting to expand their leadership capabilities. Ed’s personal mission can be summed up this way: “Changing the world one person at a time.”

Ed Chaffin believes that real, authentic leadership begins and ends with a servant’s heart – the same heart that invites others to become their very best! That initiative to serve others then transforms into a personalized leadership approach – personalized for them and for the people they are leading.
Ed has had a successful corporate career in many different areas. He was a number one salesman for two consecutive years and was part of an executive team that helped build an HR services company from $5 million in revenue to over $300 million. He was President of the firm’s largest division and because of an aggressive acquisition strategy, led the integration of seven disparate cultures by using the mantra of leadership starting with a servant’s heart. This division transformed into one with a common purpose – providing the best possible service to 9,000 clients. It achieved tremendous success and became the best performing division of the company. Client retention reached unprecedented levels and revenue, gross margin growth, and profitability achieved and surpassed all goals. Ed’s focus was on his people: investing in them, coaching and mentoring them, and guiding them to reach for seemingly impossible goals. And, they kept hitting those goals, resetting the bar, and building that division to $150 million annually!
Ed is a visionary, and with that vision he launched a very successful consulting, coaching and HR services firm The Human Capital Initiative (HCI) in 2009. He sold HCI in the summer of 2012 after gaining an even greater vision for contributing and leading initiatives to grow leaders on a global scale. Ed is able to see what is ahead and help initiate the tactics and the strategy by articulating energy and vision for the possibilities and opportunities for everyone responsible for delivering on the vision.
As a certified Birkman Method® consultant, he believes any organizational success starts with its leader(s) becoming truly self-aware. This is the foundation for personalized leadership! The Birkman is one of the best motivational, relational assessment tools on the market and the best method to become more self-aware, and invest in yourself and your people. He is also certified in another powerful tool, Dr. Laura Belsten’s social and emotional intelligence assessment called the S+EIP. The S+EIP is both a self-assessment and a 360 review of social and emotional competencies in 26 distinct areas. In addition, he has completed the Core Essentials Program and the Advanced Corporate Coach Training at Coach University. He is a Corporate Coach University Certified Graduate (CCUCG). From those certifications, the International Coach Federation granted him the designation of Professional Certified Coach (PCC).
In 2010, Ed began an affiliation with Dr. George Kohlrieser, the professor of leadership at the International Institute for Management and Development (IMD) located in Lausanne, Switzerland. Dr. Kohlrieser leads one of the most successful executive development programs at IMD called High Performance Leadership (HPL). Ed attended the HPL program in May of 2010 as an executive and was invited to become a coach in the program. In September 2010, he completed his first assignment as an executive coach and coaches each year in the program that is delivered in Lausanne, Hong Kong, and Sao Paolo. This program is based on Dr. Kohlrieser’s highly successful book Hostage At The Table; How Leaders Can Overcome Conflict, Influence Others, and Raise Performance. In addition to coaching in the HPL program, Ed has incorporated many of the philosophies and ideas into his own executive and business coaching practice.
And, he is on the Board of Directors for a non-profit, The Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center. BRCAC is an organization serving children victims of physical and sexual abuse in the surrounding parishes of Baton Rouge.
Ed is a native of Georgia, but grew up in Charleston, SC, where he studied business administration at the College of Charleston. He has also attended and completed an Executive Development program at the Wharton School of Business.
He is married to Eva, and they have a 29 year old daughter Erica, who resides in Indianapolis. Ed and Eva currently reside in Baton Rouge, LA. Eva is an LPGA Teaching Professional who has a passion for teaching women and children the game of golf. Ed also has a daughter and son. Stacy is 41 and Brett is 39, and they live in St. George, UT and Redding, CA respectively.
